The San Antonio Spurs are REALLY done THIS time…

After they were knocked out of the 1st round of the playoffs as a #1 seed by the 8th seeded Memphis Grizzlies last season, I just KNEW that was the end of an era for an aging San Antonio Spurs team.

Then what do they do?

They come back in 2012, finish with the best record in the NBA, and win 20 games in a row all the way up until Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals.

But nobody will remember ANY of those things now.

The 20 game winning streak that spanned a remarkable 50 days is now all but completely forgotten.

What will be remembered is their 4 game LOSING streak that they finished the 2011-12 season with at the expense of an Oklahoma City Thunder team that ascended to the very peak of the Western Conference right before each and every one of our very eyes.

There are now TWO things that I believe are safe to assume:

  1. The Oklahoma City Thunder will be the favorites in the NBA Finals, regardless of whether they face the Celtics or the Heat.
  2. The San Antonio Spurs are OFICIALLY done winning championships. It was a GREAT run for them.
