TUNES FOR THE NIGHT…

Original pressing on vinyl, of course. “A Night at the Opera” was (in my opinion of course) Queen’s finest album. “Bohemian Rhapsody” is anybody’s obvious choice for favorite track, and I am quilty of being painfully obvious on this one, as well. It’s simply a classic. Honorable mention goes to “You’re My Best Friend.” It’s as sweet and genuine a tune as you are ever going to hear from a band that did the rock power anthems with the best of them. “A Night at the Opera” is simply an album that must be experienced on vinyl. And thanks to a record store 50 miles from my front door, I picked this baby up for $7.99.

To be perfectly honest with you, I can do without every track performed by Yoko Ono on Side One of the LP, and “I’m Your Angel” is my favorite song of hers on the album. The ones I can do without are more than worth listening through to get to the songs of a John Lennon clearly more comfortable with himself and happier than he had ever been. It’s just beyond sad that it didn’t last long for John. I am not too masculine in any way, shape, or form to admit that I cry every single time I hear “Beautiful Boy.” By FAR my favorite song on the album, and my 2nd favorit post Beatles Lennon song behind “Imagine.” I also can’t help but think each and every time I look at the album that this is the album that John signed for Mark David Chapman only a few hours before Chapman took from us arguably the most important musical figure of the 20th century. Listening to this album always brings me both happy and sad emotions. I got this one for $4.99 at the exact same record store. Highway robbery on my part, if you ask me. I’ve kept my receipt in case the police decide to show up and put me in cuffs for making off with 2 classic lp’s for under $15.
