He seems to be the only pitcher my struggling team can hit right now.
From the standpoint of a Tigers’ fan, I would be concerned. After a shaky 9th inning against the A’s that NEARLY gave them the series, and a shaky 9th against my boys that nearly gave us a 9th inning win, you HAVE to think his confidence is shaken.
That being said, for the most part, I have liked him throughout his career. But the 3.78 ERA that he posted this season WAS the 3rd highest of his career and substantially higher than the 2.24 he put up in 2011.
Maybe he has lost his confidence, maybe he just doesn’t have his stuff right now, but he is clearly struggling. But he should be very comfortable knowing that his manager Jim Leyland will clearly stand behind him.
