20-year-old Bayne Wins the Daytona 500 (via AssociatedPress)

BRING THE BAYNE

Trevor Bayne turned 20 years old yesterday. He got his birthday present today. The kid was up front all day, driving and drafting like he had been doing it for years, and when the dust settled on the race track that had just witnessed a record for cautions and lead changes, young Trevor Bayne had won the biggest race in all of motorsports. Let me throw out a few facts that will let you know just how special this victory is:

  • This was only Bayne’s 2nd Sprint Cup start
  • Trevor doesn’t even have a full time ride for this season
  • Trevor became the youngest driver to ever win the Daytona 500 by more than 5 years. Jeff Gordon was the previous record holder at 25.
  • It took the legendary Dale Earnhardt more than 20 years to win the Daytona 500. Longer than Trevor Bayne has been alive!
  • 2 time former champion Tony Stewart and 52 year old Mark Martin have BOTH never won the Daytona 500

Above all else, you have to wonder, after only his 2nd cup race, Trevor Bayne has won the biggest race of them all! At only 20 years of age, NO victory will EVER be bigger than this one! Where will he go from here? Only time will tell….
